What was your motivation? What have you learnt? Are there any thoughts you would like to pass on? Well-known personalities with a wealth of experience in science, research and industry answer these questions at Tech-Histories Alive. Thanks to its concept, Tech-Histories Alive allow students and interested parties from all disciplines to have the unique opportunity to see those exceptional scientists very close and to learn from them. In a public lecture, the scientists report about their outstanding lifetime achievements, embedded within their historical context.

The next public lecture of ‘Tech-Histories Alive’ will be given by Prof. Dr. Winfried Petry, from the faculty of physics, former Extraordinarius of functional materials (E13).

About his topic: “60 years top-level university research with neutrons in Garching. How science and politics are mutually dependent”, Prof. Dr. Winfried Petry will explain how intensive neutron radiation research provides indispensable knowledge for modern society, from the field of physics and engineering to medicine. This neutron research has been has been conducted on the TUM Campus in Garching for over 60 years – at first, on the legendary ‘Atomei’ – today, at the FRM II; which is one of the world-leading neutron source facilities.

Prof. Winfried Petry, the former scientific director of FRM II, will give in his lecture not only insights of his scientific accomplishments of the ‘Garchinger Neutronenforschungsprogramm’ (research program of neutrons), but he will also give us a background on the interactions between science and politics.

The event is public, open to a wide audience, and free of cost.

We look forward to seeing you!
