High Temperature Superconductors (HTSC) offer due to their extremely high upper critical fields at low temperatures great opportunities to realize all superconducting magnets with magnetic field strength far beyond the existing limits of Low Temperature Superconductors (LTS). In this talk I will review shortly the existing LTS materials and LTS based magnets and discuss the relevant aspects of HTSC tapes and their properties, which are important for magnet applications, before I present already realized HTSC high field magnets, special HTSC magnet concepts like the “non insulated magnet windings” and give an outlook about future developments in this field.
