Engineering

Engineers from the institute Engineering and Technology (ZEA-1) from the Forschungszentrum Jülich strongly support the instrument scientists with their projects to improve the performance and the reliability of the instruments and to build new instruments. This combined effort leverages the dedicated know how of this institute in the field of neutron scattering instrumentation for the MLZ. Components are designed and built and frequently are installed by engineers from Jülich to achieve immediate full performance.

Activities

A key project is the new thermal time-of-flight spectrometer with polarization analysis TOPAS which will be installed in the new guide hall in the near future. Other projects include a new collimation unit for KWS-1 and new correction coils for the neutron spin echo spectrometer J-NSE.
