Quantum Phenomena

The Quantum Phenomena (QP) Group of MLZ acts as a new platform to promote and strengthen close cooperation for scientists at MLZ and from the surrounding institutions and universities in the research fields of magnetism, superconductivity and strongly correlated electron systems. The scientists in the group are engaged in original research based on neutron diffraction and spectroscopy. The QP group is also strongly involved in the operation, maintenance and further instrument developments of a wide range of the state-of-the-art neutron instruments for the scientific community. A large energy range can be measured using spin echo, triple axis and time-of-flight instruments whereas SANS and reflectometers allow for a large q-range. Instrumentation oriented science and science-driven instrumentation are thus among key strategic considerations for the group to define science roadmaps and future instrument developments (like the new triple axis instrument KOMPASS) in order to meet future scientific challenges.

Regular group meetings target topical research directions, recent major advances in the field of magnetism, superconductivity and correlated electron systems.

Topics

  • High temperature superconductivity
  • Quantum magnetism
  • Novel quantum phenomena
  • Correlated electrons
  • Unconventional superconductivity
