Neutrons for Society: Industrial applications of neutron sources

The aim of this Proseminar talk is to give a introduction in to the wide
range of industrial applications of neutron sources, in particular talking about
the FRM II as neutron source. Thus illustrating with sufficient examples the
diversity of ways neutron sources irradiation facilities at FRM II are exploited
today. Current applications range from pure commercial silicon doping produc-
tion, neutron activation analysis to the production of Radioisotope for industrial
and medical applications.
Neutron sources are based on various mechanism. At FRM2 the fission of
uranium provides the free neutrons for experiments. The diversity of neutron
applications calls for several irradiation facilities. These are located in the re-
actor pool or even in the moderator tank providing a variation in neutron flux
aligned with the application. This talk will contain a outline of each irradia-
tion facility including future installations such as Mo–99 irradiation for medical
purpose. Later sections will contain calculations and simulations hold against
experimental results. Focusing on silicon doping and how to gain information
about the phosphorus density out of the ingot resistance after the irradiation.
