Due to the reactor fuel conversion, UMo/Al has been proven as promising reactor fuel. First in-pile experiments revealed that an IDL builds up, which leads to an enormous swelling of the fuel plates. Therefore, it is from outstanding interest to understand the development of the IDL. In this Bachelor’s seminar lecture an introduction of the irradiation induced IDL between the U-Mo fuel and the Aluminum cladding is given. The in-pile IDL growth can be simulated with heavy ion irradiation. The results of my bachelor thesis, in which a theory of the IDL growth during heavy ion irradiation is introduced, are discussed.
